TIME FOR JERSEY CANNABIS

The first New Jersey recreational cannabis sales received approval from a state regulatory board on Monday, 4.11.22. Retail marijuana sales could begin in 30 days.

The state cannabis regulatory commission gave permission to seven medical marijuana dispensaries to expand. Sales are restricted to buyers age 21 and older. Applications were approved from companies including TerrAscend Corp., Curaleaf Holdings Inc., and Green Thumb Industries Inc.

The board started accepting retail license applications on March 15 and has received more than 600 to date. Each application will take 90 days to review, and for those that are approved, retail sales won’t begin until the commission sets a statewide date. New Jersey voters in November 2020 approved a constitutional amendment to legalize the cultivation, processing and sales of marijuana to those 21 and over. The drug remains outlawed at the federal level.
